Achievements
Wyatt is the ultimate all-around horse. He has pretty much done it all and he is only 8 years old! As a two year old he was trained for the Western pleasure circuit, but we soon found out that he was too ranchy for rail classes. His huge stride just covered too much ground to cut it in the pleasure classes. But he stuck with the Paint Horse show circuit and earned many points in Halter, Hunter Under Saddle, Hunt Seat, Trail, Reining, Showmanship, Western Horsemanship, and even a few in poles and western pleasure. His total life points between, Amature, Youth, Novice Amature and Open classes adds up to 130 He has ROM's in Halter, Showmanship and Trail. He has Youth Championship. He loved it all! He adores being adored and finds very inovative ways to amuse himself while in his stall between classes. Many times we have caught him playing with buckets in his stall and sticking his tounge out at us while hanging his head over the stall door.
But after a while we started thinking that maybe we should put his athletic ability to better use. On many of the trail rides we went on, we noticed that Wyatt quite enjoyed racing across the fields. So we decided to give him a chance to embrace that. We started moving cattle out in the field with him and he seemed to have lots of fun chasing after strays. We noticed that he had quite a burst of speed, and decided to start him on the Barrel pattern. Our daughter, Jessica started to put him in barrels and poles in local fairs, and did quite well this past summer. Wyatt doesn't quite know the pattern as well as some of the other horses, but he never had any problems getting through the pattern. They consistently placed and had lots of fun doing it.
But we just didn't have the time to get them in the High School Rodeo Circuit and Jessica is already in grade 12, so Jess started finding other things to do with Wyatt. One day she set up some cross rails in the arena and tested him out. Wyatt passed with flying colours! Wyatt has plenty of talent at soaring over those rails, and Jess spent alot of time praciticing this summer. They entered rail classes at many fairs and Wyatt turned out to be a great Jumper.
Even though he started participating in sports that required more spunk, Wyatt hasn't lost any of his personality. He is still a sweet heart, and does everything he can to please whomever is riding on his back. Because of his speed he needs a skilled rider, but he is a big teddy bear when it comes to hugs and kisses from small kids. He is as light as a feather on the lead shank, and has proved his obedience in many showmanship classes.
